About the Author

I am almost 30. I have been married for six years. I have two children, a boy and a girl, and another child on the way in about eight months.

I have done really interesting things in my life- I promise. I probably  won’t ever talk about them though.

Why “letters of lament”? Because lamentation is theme that is dominant in my life. Before I was a christian, my life was so hard and severe that I often cried out in pain. When I was becoming a Christian, I was struck and consoled by how much lamentation the authors or subjects of scripture lamented (Psalms, Lamentations, Jesus, Peter, Paul).

My life is not a perfect middle class dream. I am poor-below the poverty line. I just graduated college, and it hasn’t changed much except given me gray hairs.

With all my heart I want to serve Jesus and neighbor. I am trying to figure out how to do that while providing for my family.

I like to brew beer. I enjoy good food, and laughter. I love music, and have an affinity for live concerts from the Grateful Dead primarily from 1974.

I love to skateboard…though it is an expensive hobby.

I am weak and broken, and depend on the Grace of God in many ways…having failed to be a spiritual superhero. I enjoy Martin Luther’s writings, and the history of the New England Puritans.

You haven’t failed until you’ve given up. He who began a good work in you will complete it.

Hang in there, you’ll remain in my prayers.

    In Christ,

    Richard

She’s on her way of religious life as a nun (I realize that’s not an option for you :) ) but as she travels her journey she may be able to encourage you.

    In Christ,

    Richard
